Lyles College of Engineering Mentoring Program
The Lyles College of Engineering Mentoring Program at Fresno State supports academic, personal, and professional development and achievement of students in the Lyles College, with primary focus on first-year students.
Mentors are successful alumni and industry professionals who volunteer their time to help first-year students develop better connections to the University community and its resources as well as to have increasingly positive experiences in and outside of the classroom.
The Lyles College Mentoring Program’s goals are to:
- Increase Lyles College students’ academic success, retention, graduation and satisfaction
- Help develop meaningful connections between new students and industry professionals / alumni
- Help build and strengthen the self-esteem and self-confidence of Lyles College students
- Expand professional networking opportunities for all Lyles College students
Benefits:
Mentees benefit personally and professionally from the insight and guidance of industry mentors of whom a majority are Fresno State Lyles College alumni and understand the student experience. They also are able to expand their professional network, and learn new methods to overcome challenges and accomplish goals.
Mentors gain satisfaction in knowing they are making meaningful contributions to the personal and professional development of future engineers and construction managers. Mentors also have the opportunity to grow professionally, network with students and other mentors, and expand their leadership skills.
